We are an Eco-School!

We are very excited to share that we have been awarded the Eco-Schools’ Green Flag Award thanks to the hard work of our eco club last academic year.
We received lots of praise for their commitment to helping the environment from the assessor including the following:
- It’s fantastic that you have such a large Eco-Club in your school, it shows that your pupils clearly care about our planet and all plants, animals, and insects that live on it;
- Members of your Eco-Club took ownership over completing the Eco-Schools’ Environmental Review, guided by their interest, passion, and determination. It was a pleasure to read that your Eco-Club was inspired by our Environmental Review and gathered lots of ideas for their Action Plan when they completed it;
- Monitoring and Evaluation can be one of the more difficult steps of the Eco-Schools’ framework, your Eco-Club predicted this and proactively developed ways to monitor their projects from an early stage;
- We praise your Eco-Club for their wonderful efforts to keep their school updated about their Eco-Schools’ work. Delivering an assembly about their work will have taken a lot of courage, so especially well done for doing so!
What is an Eco-School and Green Flag Award?
The Eco-Schools programme provides a simple, seven-step framework that empowers young people to make a difference in their school, local community and beyond. Since 1994, millions of young people around the world have worked through the Eco-Schools Seven Steps before being recognised for their efforts with a prestigious Eco-Schools Green Flag.
Schools connect their activities to three or more of the Ten Eco-Schools Topics. These topics break large, global issues like climate change into more manageable and directed themes that prompt young people to consider environmental changes that they can make in their school and everyday lives.
This year, we will once again hold fortnightly eco-club meetings. We have twelve new members from Years 1-6. We will be updating this page and our school newsletter to tell you all about the fantastic ideas and projects that the children complete.
Hello, we are the new Eco Club.
We would like to share with you some of the exciting things that we are going to do this school year. Our three main topics will be:
-
marine,
-
biodiversity,
-
healthy living.
We are planning to create some art work with plastic bottle lids, make a hedgehog or bird house and create some healthy recipes for you to try at home. We will update you in the newsletter with our progress.

Here are some top tips for using less plastic in school.

We welcome any further suggestions on how we can be saving water in school.
January Update:
The Eco Club created a beautiful picture of a turtle with bottle tops for their Marine Topic, highlighting the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling your waste. This will be displayed in school for all of the children to see.

February Update:
On Wednesday, Eco Club took part in the RSPB 'Big Schools' Birdwatch.' They went out to the back field with a bird identification sheet and counted the number of each bird that landed. They counted seven magpies, one crow and one wood pigeon. They also noticed several other birds but unfortunately, these did not land. They then submitted these results to help the RSPB understand how different birds are getting on.
We look forward to updating you with more fantastic work!
