Operation Encompass
At Dulverton Primary School, we are committed to ensuring the safety, wellbeing and emotional health of all our pupils. We work closely with other agencies to support children and families, including through a safeguarding initiative called Operation Encompass.
What is Operation Encompass?
Operation Encompass is a partnership between schools and the police that helps provide early support for children who may be affected by domestic abuse.
When the police attend a domestic incident where a child is present or lives at the address, they inform the school’s Key Adult before the start of the next school day. This allows the school to offer immediate, sensitive support to the child.
How does the school use this information?
The information is shared confidentially and securely and only with staff who need to know. This helps us to:
- Understand why a child may be upset, tired or unsettled
- Offer emotional support and reassurance
- Make reasonable adjustments during the school day
- Monitor wellbeing and provide ongoing care where needed
We do not share details of the incident with other children or families.
Why is Operation Encompass important?
Experiencing or witnessing domestic abuse can have a serious impact on a child’s emotional wellbeing, learning and behaviour. Operation Encompass ensures that children receive support at the earliest possible opportunity.
Working with Families
We recognise that this is a sensitive issue and our approach is always child-centred, supportive and non-judgemental. Our aim is to work alongside families to ensure children feel safe and supported in school.
